About Us
Fine Communications began as a result of my interest in amateur radio after getting my amateur license at early age. I passed first class commercial license and radar endorsement by age 17 and worked as a part time broadcast engineer. I began pilot training while in school and received my private pilot license in 1971, after graduating from 4 years of electronics school. I began working in development of radio equipment and design for a year. In 1972 entered the field of Avionics and after few years received all ratings and advanced training. I took a major step in 1984 into the complex field of Aviation/Avionics and went into business as an FAA Certified Repair Certified Shop in avionics and aircraft systems from class 1 through class 4 ratings.
Prior to the sale in 2001 of avionics business, I ran full service design, installation, and repair facility of aircraft systems from navigation, communications systems, instrument repair & certification, radar systems, electronics instrumentation, GPS systems, guidance systems, and performed FAA system approved design, installation, and repairs on all types of aircraft from rotor craft and general aviation to Commercial Air Carrier jets. We had many projects in aviation that received worldwide attention such as developing the first instrument landing approach system for GPS in a medical helicopter in the world in August of 1994.
Fine Communications Inc began in 1984 as a small side business in my garage. I was an EMT at the time and I helped get radios because funds were not available to purchase and this helped keep cost down so we could have affordable equipment to provide EMS communications and service. Since I am a current Paramedic, I have continued to provide affordable radio communications and systems to EMS, rescue squads, law enforcement, and schools. As a result of continued growth, Fine Communications opened a new sales and service facility at 279 Ave B, Alcoa, TN in May of 1999.
Fine Communications has extensive experience in radio frequency (RF) systems and design. We offer complete and well experienced solutions for radio systems with a full equipped service shop. We have trained staff in both technical and sales solutions. We continuously update our training and maintain the same requirements as required in avionics business and test equipment calibration standards which many shops don’t. As a result, we have operated by word of mouth advertising since we opened in 1984 by helping and educating our customers and working to help on cost savings and providing solutions to issues and knowledge.
